Welcome To Year 2

In the Autumn term, Year 2 will learn about The Great Fire of London and have an exciting visit from the fire brigade. We will also be learning about living in hot and cold countries. In science we will study animals including humans and discover the importance of habitats. To develop our creativity, children will develop their mark-making to explore a wider range of tools and experiment with creating texture to add detail to drawings, they will also design and sew pouches. At the end of the term, we will visit the theatre to watch a pantomime and perform in a whole school carol concert.  

In the Spring term, we will experience what it was like to nurse through the Crimean War. We will research Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale and find out what qualities are needed to become a modern-day nurse. Children will learn about the world’s wonders and describe why our world is so wonderful. They will identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials and explore structures needed design and make a chair for a teddy bear.  

In the Summer term, children will make clay houses and learn about the sculpture Rachel Whiteread. They will learn about the first airplane flight and the importance of the Wright brothers and the story of their historic first aeroplane flight. This will be further enriched with an exciting trip to Hendon Aircraft Museum. In geography, children will gain an understanding of what it is like to live by the coast and learn about the physical features of the Jurassic Coast. This term will also include our whole school sports day and Summer Concert!
